Three Children Killed in Three Mile Bay Crash After Motorist Flees

June 23, 2007, 3:00 p.m.

THREE MILE BAY, N.Y.   The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred at about 11:39 p.m. Friday on State Route 12E in the town of Lyme.  

Deputies report that a westbound vehicle crashed into a utility police on the northern side of State Route 12E in the hamlet of Three Mile Bay.

Deputies confirm three fatalities at this time.  

The victims have been identified as Mary Porvo, 2, Nathaniel Parker, 6, and Tyler Parker, 10.  The victims' mother, Lisa Parker, 29, Weedsport, was the driver. She survived and was transferred from Samaritan Medical Center to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.  She is listed in critical condition, deputies said.

Prior to the accident, the victims' vehicle was halted by a Jefferson County sheriff's deputy for a traffic violation near the village of Chaumont.  The deputy was approaching the vehicle when the operator sped away from the scene.  The operator continued fleeing from the deputy's second attempt to stop the vehicle and eventually crashed into a utility pole causing three fatalities, they said.

Assisting deputies at the scene were firefighters from Three Mile Bay, Cape Vincent and Chaumont, and members of the Jefferson County Fire and Emergency Management and the Fort Drum Traffic Accident Investigation unit.
