Ruth R. Nevin, 82, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Ruth R. Nevin, 82, of Riverbend Drive, Watertown, passed away at her home Wednesday afternoon, May 16, 2018, under her loving family’s and Hospice of Jefferson County’s care.

Calling hours will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc, Watertown. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 21, at the funeral home followed by burial in Brookside Cemetery.

Born Sept. 25, 1935, in Glens Falls, the daughter of Rexford and Emily Sceurman Reynolds, she graduated from Warrensburg High School and Russell Sage College, Troy and she did graduate work at St. Lawrence University, Canton.

She married Charles O. Nevin on Oct. 8, 1950, at Holy Family Church with his brother, Fr. Steven Nevin, officiating.

Ruth taught at Gouverneur High School and Immaculate Heart Central, and later enjoyed being a homemaker.

She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of the League of Women’s Voters. She was a supporter of Save the River. With her family she enjoyed spending time at her childhood cottage on Saranac Lake and their cottage on the St. Lawrence River.

Along with her husband, Charles, she is survived by her four children, Charles L. Nevin and wife, Bridget Whalen-Nevin, Brier Hill, Lisa N. Hackett and husband, Sean, Baltimore, MD, Andrew R. Nevin and wife, Shannon, and Amy N. Forgit and husband, Joseph, Hammond; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The youngest of five children, her three sisters, Emily Martin, Florence Pennock, and Miriam Quackenbush, and her brother, Rexford Reynolds II, died before her. Above all, providing for her family, young and old, was her paramount mission throughout her life.
