CLAYTON, NY — Stephen F. Liebig, 65, of Buffalo, NY, and formerly of Alexandria Bay, NY, passed away Jan. 11, 2018, at Buffalo General Hospital.
Stephen was born in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of Earl and Olive (Kester) Liebig. He was raised in Alexandria Bay, NY and was a 1970 graduate of Alexandria Central School. He attended Jefferson Community College, and received his bachelor’s of arts degree in 1975 from Buffalo State College.
On Sept. 14, 1974, he married Bonnie J. Potter (late Howard and Jean Cheever) in St. Mary’s Church, Clayton, NY.
Stephen worked as a Mail Clerk at Canisius College. He was active in Campus Ministry with their community outreach as well as Appalachian projects and Habitat for Humanity. In 2011, he was honored with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award.
He was a communicant of Holy Angels Church in Buffalo serving as Eucharistic Minister. Together with his wife, he also volunteered with the CYO.
Stephen enjoyed gardening, his family and pets, and devoted countless hours to the needs of his elderly neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Stephen M. (Amanda) and a daughter, Emily K. He was the cherished Papa of Gracelyn. He is also survived by his brothers Earl R. (Charlotte), Joel, Randall (Kevin Songer), and sisters Nina, and Edna (David) Smith, a sister-in-law, Jacqueline, an aunt, Melba Kester, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Lincoln.
A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at St. Mary’s Church, 521 James Street, Clayton, with Rev. Arthur J. LaBaff, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
