Sterling W. Conant, 80, Calcium

CALCIUM, NY — Sterling W. Conant, 80, Calcium, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, under the care of his loving family and Jefferson County Hospice.

Born March 9, 1938. in Watertown, NY, a son of the late William C. and Arliuene A. (Shaw) Conant, he graduated from Watertown High School, the class of 1955.

He then went on to work at Kraft Foods in Lowville, where he retired after 25 years of dedicated service.

He was united in marriage with Angeline D. Shambo on Oct. 5, 1957, at Saint Mary’s Church, Copenhagen with The Rev. Earl Nichols, officiating.

Sterling enjoyed crafts, wood-working, Syracuse basketball and dirt track stock car racing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Sterling is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Angeline, Calcium, NY; a daughter, RoseAnn Conant, Watertown, NY; a son, Todd (Kim) Conant, Hudson, Florida; two sisters, Sylvia Gilmartin, Watertown, NY, and Gloria (Dale) Tiffany, Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren, Tony Diaz, Watertown, NY; Shawna (Dave) Gibeau, Carthage, NY; Stevie Gould, Croghan, NY; Marissa Conant, Salt Lake City, Utah; great-grandchildren, Cadence, McKayla and Jacob; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his three infant daughters, Shawn, Pamela Sue and Paula Alice; and several brothers-in-law, Peter Gilmartin, Earl, Douglas, and Roger Shambo.

There will be no calling hours.

A burial service will be held in the spring at the Brookside Cemetery in Watertown.

The Conant family would like to thank the Jefferson County Hospice Nurses and Volunteers for their compassion and special care shown to the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County.
