Two women injured in collision on Route 12 in Clayton

CLAYTON, NY — Two women were injured shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday after a sport utility vehicle collided with a construction vehicle at the intersection of Route 12 and May Irwin Road between Clayton and Fishers Landing, troopers said.

Both women were extricated from a Jeep Patriot. One was flown by a LifeNet medical helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment and the other was taken by an ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. Troopers did not reveal the extent of the injuries.

The cause of the crash, which closed a section of Route 12 in the town of Clayton for about an hour, is under investigation.

Troopers were assisted by volunteer firefighters and Thousand Island Emergency Rescue Service.
