Velma M. Getman, 68, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY – Velma Marie Getman, 68, died Sunday evening, Jan. 6, 2019, at Samaritan Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Velma was born on April 25, 1950, in Carthage, the daughter of Marion E. (Potter) Carter.

She was the distribution supervisor for the Watertown Daily Times, retiring after 25 years of service.

She enjoyed flea markets, rummage sales and crossword puzzles.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and her beloved grandchildren.

Velma is survived by her life partner, James Ratigliano of Watertown; four children, John and Christine Getman of Theresa; Amy and Buck Hubbard of Watertown; Cindy and Eric Hubbard of Carthage; and Douglas Getman of Carthage; her mother, Marion Carter of North Carolina; two brothers, James Potter of California and Albert Carter of North Carolina; a sister, Noreen Moroughan of North Carolina; as well as 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Robert Wayne Hubbard III as well as a daughter-in-law, Barbara Getman.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central NY, 1100 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13210, due to the loving care and assistance they have provided their family over the years.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at her home, 23951 NYS Route 12, Watertown NY. The family requests that visitors bring a dish to pass.  All are welcome.
