Watertown man fired rifle in hallway of apartment building, police say

WATERTOWN, NY — David J. Martin, 61, of 140 Polk St., Apt. 1, Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 11:19 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at 140 Polk St. with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing and second-degree reckless endangerment.

He is accused of “brandishing a Ruger brand .22-caliber rifle in the common hallway of his apartment building, raised the weapon towards two men, Theron K. Rueckert, 61, and Harold S. Harris, 41, both of Watertown, and fired one round into the floor between them,” at about 10:35 p.m. Saturday, according to court documents.

Mr. Martin was being held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment Sunday morning in City Court.
