William T. Faust, 77, formerly of Clayton

CLAYTON, NY — William T. Faust, 77, formerly of Clayton, passed away Sunday evening, December 23, 2018, at Oswego Hospital.

Calling hours at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton, and burial in Grindstone Island Cemetery will take place in the spring at a time and date to be announced.

Bill was born Nov. 18, 1941, in Syracuse, the son of William H. “Bud” and Jewell A. DeCoursey Faust. He entered the US Navy on January 13, 1960 and was honorably discharged from active duty on Dec. 13, 1963.

Marriages to Rose Marie Silvia, Linda Marie Schleher, and Eileen Barbara Holtz (later his caregiver) ended in divorce.

He served the Village of Clayton from September 1968 starting as a police officer and retiring in September 1999 as the Chief of Police. Bill was Methodist, was a member of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Dept. and the American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821 for ten years and a life member of the NNY Fireman Assoc. He enjoyed boating, fishing and was a NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his seven children, Christine (Ted) Wells and William J. Faust, all of Watertown, Melinda (Jeff) Countryman, Theresa, Melissa Faust and Misty (Ken) Partridge, all of Clayton, Matthew Faust, Philadelphia, PA, and Sarah Faust, Virginia Beach, VA; 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Bud, April 3, 1983, his mother, Jewell, May 4, 2007, a son-in-law, Benjamin T. Winkler, August 26, 2015, and a sister, Carol M. Faust, Oct. 13, 1971.
