Winifred J. Dwyer, 100, formerly of Brownville

BROWNVILLE, NY — Winifred J. Dwyer, 100, passed away Saturday evening at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego, NY, where she had been a patient since 2016.

Born Sept. 13, 1917, in Theresa, NY, the daughter of Frederick and Lula Mae Burlingame Ward, she graduated from Evans Mills High School.

She married Leo M. Dwyer on Nov. 26, 1938, in Antwerp, NY. The couple lived in Brownville until her husbands’ death on November 8, 2002. She then moved to Central Square.

Winifred worked as a kitchen-aide at the House of Good Samaritan Hospital for several years.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Brownville, St. Agnes Church of Central Square, the NYS Grange, Home Bureau of Dexter, she and her husband started the “Dudes and Darlings Square Dancing Group”.

She was an avid crafter, quilter and loved to knit and crochet.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen (Dustin) Cole, Syracuse, Linda (Robert) Hurley, Adams Center, and Veronica (James) Revette, Central Square; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several great- great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilfred Ward of Florida also survives along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two children Cynthia Dwyer in 1973 and a son, James Dwyer in 2012. Two brothers, Wendell Ward and Ralph Ward, and a sister, Betty Williams, also predeceased her.

A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Wednesday June 20, at Immaculate Conception Church in Brownville. Burial will follow in Dexter Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
