Alfreda M. Roggie, 87, Carthage

CARTHAGE, NY – Alfreda M. Roggie, 87, formerly of Sayre Road, Carthage, died early Thursday morning, Nov. 1, 2018, at SUNY Upstate Medical Hospital, Syracuse.

Born Dec. 23, 1930, at home in Belfort, NY, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Alma (Zehr) Widrick, she attended school at the Old Belfort School House.

She went onto be employed as a housekeeper for Carthage Area Hospital as well as Samaritan Keep Nursing Home.

On May 12, 1948, she married Lansing D. Roggie at the Croghan Mennonite Church in a double wedding with Lansing’s brother, Elvin, and Alfreda’s sister, Ellen, officiated by the Rev. Lloyd Boshart.

Alfreda enjoyed gardening, painting, pictures and reading.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry and his wife Sherry of Pennsylvania; Brian and his wife Linda Roggie of Pennsylvania; one daughter, Sharon and her husband Jeffrey Ames of Carthage, NY; a half-sister, Linda Lyndecker of Belfort, NY; a half-brother, Ed Widrick of Belfort, NY; as well as nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Roggie was predeceased by her husband, Lansing who died on July 19, 2008; two sons, Timothy and Lynn Roggie; her parents, Benjamin and Alma Widrick; two brothers, Loren and Arnold Widrick; a sister, Ellen Roggie; a half-brother, Larry Widrick; a half-sister, Judy Widrick; and a grandson Adam, who died at the age of 12.

Calling hours will be held 3 to 6 p.m.  Monday, Nov. 5, at the Naumburg Mennonite Church.  Burial will take place 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, in Croghan Mennonite Cemetery with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the church. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church.  All are welcome.
