Allan G. Hunter, 83, Belleville

BELLEVILLE, NY — Allan G. “Shorty” Hunter, 83, Belleville, passed away Monday April 22, 2019, at his home.

The funeral will be noon Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Ellisburg Cemetery. Calling hours are 10 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral on Saturday.

He was born Aug. 28, 1935, in the town of Ellisburg, a son to Stanley D. and Mary E. McHale Hunter. He was educated at Belleville Central School. Following high school, he served with the US Army.

After his honorable discharge, Shorty worked for Dairymen’s League and owned and operated a milk truck hauling business. He co-operated Hunter’s Sunoco in Belleville with his brother Keith for a few years and drove school bus for Belleville. He drove truck for C.N. Snyder, Inc., Adams, before retiring.

Shorty was a 65 year member of the Belleville Volunteer Fire Department serving as chief, assistant chief and fire policeman.

Shorty is survived by three brothers and their wives, Gerald and Ella, Sandy Creek, Keith and Kay, Rochester, Lee and Betty, Palmyra; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marlene M., Belleville, Marcia and Edward Smithler, Newburgh, IN; many nieces and nephews.

A brother, Glenn S., and his father and mother, all predeceased him.
