WATERTOWN, NY — Allen Albert Benway 70, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, at Samaritan Medical Center.
The funeral will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Father Steven Murray officiating. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will precede the service 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Born March 31, 1948, in Watertown, a son to Carl and Bernice (Burker) Benway, he was educated locally, and served in Vietnam with the United States Army.
Following an honorable discharge, Allen worked as a laborer with several local construction outfits.
On Feb. 21, 1991, he married Karen VanWormer in Watertown. The service was officiated by Howard George, Justice of the Peace.
Allen enjoyed golfing, fishing, softball, the Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Yankees.
Surviving besides his wife, Karen, is a step-son: Jeremiah Calwell; a grandson: Tyler Calwell; a sister: Tzana Treadway; a brother: Carl “Fred” Benway; and a step-sister: Anne DuMond. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Besides his parents, Allen is predeceased by his step-father: Maynard Hall.
