Allen C. Strough, Sr., 90, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY —  Allen C. Strough, Sr., 90, of Patterson Road, Watertown, passed away, Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at Hospice of Jefferson County at Ellis Farm, Watertown, NY.

Born April 10, 1932 in Theresa, NY, he was a son of Royal and Lulah Greene Strough and a graduate of Theresa High School. He was a Gunner’s Mate Third Class in the US Navy, serving during the Korean War and honorably discharged in 1954.

Allen married Rosemary Aldrich on July 20, 1955, at Asbury Methodist Church in Watertown.  They were married for 56-years and she passed away, Jan. 1, 2012.

Whether he was called Allen, Dad, Grandpa Al or Poppa Al, he was known for having a good time.  He enjoyed boating on the St. Lawrence with his wife, Rosemary and wintering in Hudson, FL, and listening to Johnny Cash with a rum and Coke.

He was very close to his Florida family, especially Will and June Short, his friends at the VFW, and his family at Longway’s Diner (Al’s favorite place).

Survivors include four sons and four daughters-in-law, Allen C., Jr. and Lori Strough, Jay J. and Philippa Strough, Bruce C. and Lynn Strough, John A. and Judith Strough; eight grandchildren, Allen Strough, Mary Strough, Ralph Jordan, Jayden Strough, Sandra Rosbrook (Richard) Shannon Sech (Wayne), Kyle Gill (Lynn) and Zachary Strough; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to take the opportunity to give special thanks to Caregivers Home Care of Watertown, especially Emily, Hospice nurses, Tammy and Roseanne, for making Al feel safe and comfortable.  Also, a special thank you to his granddaughter, Sandy Rosbrook, who stayed by his side day and night.

Al’s two favorite sayings were, “Are you going to be ok if I leave”? and “I never say goodbye, just see you later”.

Services will be private.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa, NY.
