Cape Vincent man accused of intentionally accelerating vehicle, nearly striking Watertown man

WATERTOWN, NY —  Christopher W.L. Grant, 31, of 281 E. Lake St., Cape Vincent, was charged by Watertown police at 8:35 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Mr. Grant is accused of accelerating a vehicle at a high rate of speed at Phillip M. Cronin, 29, Watertown, multiple times nearly striking the victim at about 7:02 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at 550 Coffeen St., according to court documents. He also allegedly possessed Clonazepam in his front right pocket, police said.

Mr. Grant was previously convicted of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance on June 23, 2011, in Jefferson County Court, police said.

He was being held pending arraignment in court, police said.
