Carol Hannesson, 90, Sun City, FL

CLAYTON, NY — Carol Hannesson, 90, of Sun City, FL, passed away on April 10, 2019.

Carol was born to Howard and Vanessa Walts on Dec. 11, 1928, in Clayton. She graduated in 1946 with honors from Gouverneur High School.

With her first husband, Jean LaBow, Carol had three children: Cynthia, Brenda & Michael.  In addition to being a great mom, she was a girl scout leader, a member of the local fire department women’s auxiliary and Methodist church.

Many years later Carol became a certified medical assistant for her second husband, Dr. William W. Hall, Jr. in his Watertown medical practice.  Upon retirement they owned and operated Woods N Goods, a woodworking/craft shop in Cape Vincent. Other mutual interests they enjoyed were: sailing, sharing get-togethers with family and friends, traveling, and snowmobiling. After they purchased their Florida home, they enjoyed lawn bowling and playing in a harmonica group in Sun City.

She married her surviving husband, Paul Hannesson, on February 21, 2014, in Florida.  Paul played harmonica and Carol continued accompanying the harmonica group on her keyboard and arranged programs for Monday lunchtime entertainment at Sun Towers dining room. They spent summers in Cape Vincent where they enjoyed gardening, playing cards, doing Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles, and watching their beloved Tampa Bay Rays.

Carol’s other survivors include: her daughters, Cynthia (Gary) Edick and Brenda Minasian; stepson, William W. Hall III; stepdaughters, Linda Hall, Chris Small, and Allison (Keith) Ericson; grandchildren, Chris (Becky) LaBow, Chelsea (Karl) Murphy, Craig (Kaire) LaBow, Jeffrey (Alyssa) Edick, Jessica (Mathew) LaFrance, Kenny Minasian, and Grace Minasian; step grandchildren, Hedy (Chuck) Collver, Kurt (Jamie) Hall, Robert (Laura) Mann, Shayne Small, Chad (Caitlin) Small, Matthew Ericson, and Suzanne Swanson; and many great grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her sister June Walts, Jean LaBow, Dr. William W. Hall, Jr., son, Michael H. LaBow, and stepdaughter Anne Johnson.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton, with Hedy Collver officiating followed by burial in Omar Cemetery.
