SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — Charles Stephen “Chip” Lee, 68, passed away on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, in Saratoga Springs, NY, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 24,1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of Dr. Richard S. Lee and Pearl Mae (Kommer) Lee. Chip attended Portsmouth Priory School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island and graduated from Watertown High School in Watertown, NY, Class of ’71.
He earned an Associate’s degree in Engineering from Jefferson Community College in 1980 while working for St. Regis Paper and later worked for Knowlton Specialty Paper as Director of Research.
He went on to work for Lydall Paper and eventually began his own consulting company. His business endeavors took him around the world and gave him many stories to tell.
Chip enjoyed anything he could do outside four walls. He was an outdoorsman and always said he felt closest to his Creator when he was in nature. He loved hunting, fishing, sailing, and kayaking. He also loved his family and friends deeply, maintaining lifelong bonds with friends from his childhood, which time and distance could not weaken. Chip was dedicated and determined. He believed in trying to make the world a better place and leaving things better than how they were found. He had deep morals and always wanted to “do the right thing.” He was an intellectual with a heart; a history “buff” and avid reader, who loved sharing a good laugh. He was not afraid to be the center of a good joke, to don a silly hat, and engage in funny face contests. He so enjoyed spending the quiet and fun times with his family, particularly his kids and later his grandkids.
Chip is survived by his wife Xue Mei Li (Stillwater),and his step-daughter Baoliang “Grace” Zhu, his former wife and lifetime friend, Mary Lee, and their five loving children; Jennifer M. Nichols, Adam R. Lee ( Nicole J.), Melissa A. Lee, Christopher A. Lee , Michael K. Lee (Brittany Lail); his nine grandchildren (all his babies); Moriah and Catherine Nichols, Deegan and Lilah Lee, Jacob and Killian Lee, Alaura, Hunter, and Jayde Lee . His siblings; Stephanie Lee-Porter, Richard Lee, Michael Lee, Jonathan Lee, Pamela Lee, James Lee, and Christopher Lee; along with several other beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Pearl May (Kommer) Lee and his father Dr. Richard S. Lee.
A memorial celebration of Chip’s life will be held noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 11, 2021, at Longfellows Inn and Restaurant, 500 Union Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY.
All friends and family are invited to attend.
