WATERTOWN, NY — Cheryl “NU” Cooley, 73, Watertown, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at her home while she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Father Mickey Demo officiating. Calling hours will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. prior at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Born Feb. 25, 1947, in Ogdensburg, NY, a daughter to Alton W. and Catherine F. Akin Peterson.
She married Gay O. “Gary” “Sonny” Cooley on June 4, 1968, at Holy Family Church. Mr. Cooley passed away Nov. 4, 2006.
Cheryl enjoyed playing dice and cards, shopping on QVC, and going shopping with her son at Walmart. Christmas was Cheryl’s favorite holiday and she always made sure that her family had a great Christmas. Those memories will live on forever with her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Catherine (Paul Karkruff) Shepherd, Sterling, NY; Kimberly (David) Hazzard, Tennessee; a son, William Cooley, Watertown; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Linda Peterson; a brother, Gerald “Jerry” Peterson; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Cheryl was predeceased by her husband, Gay and a brother James Peterson.
