Couple accused of leaving 2-month-old girl unattended in running vehicle for over an hour in LeRay Walmart parking lot

EVANS MILLS, NY —  A man and woman are accused of leaving their 2-month-old daughter in a running vehicle for over an hour Saturday afternoon, Dec. 31, in the parking lot of Walmart in the town of LeRay, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy responded to the store after a report of the vehicle being unattended in the vehicle for over 30 minutes.

A deputy wrote: “I arrived and observed a two-month-old child resting comfortably in her child seat in the rear behind the passenger’s seat with a blanket covering all but her face. The 2008 Nissan Altima was running and the outside temperature was 48 degrees Fahrenheit. Staff from Walmart stated that they paged the owner of the vehicle twice with no response. Associates were asking customers on the sales floor and eventually located Dallas E. Sitton and Jasmine L. Sitton inside shopping. Dallas came out and apologized for the concern. Jasmine came out shortly thereafter. Both were cooperative and understanding of the situation.”

Dallas E. Sitton, 19, and Jasmine L. Sitton, 21, both of Greenvile, SC, were each charged by deputies with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. They are both summoned to appear Jan. 20 in CAP Court.

Mr. Sitton stated their temporary residence was at the Candlewood Suites on Fort Drum, deputies said.

Mr. Sitton was was released to military custody.
