Daniel A. Smith, 69, Lorraine

LORRAINE, NY —  Daniel A. Smith, 69, Lorraine, died Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at his home where he had been under the care of his wife JoAnn and Hospice of Jefferson County.

It was his wishes to be cremated, with no services.

Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home. Inc., Adams, NY.

Dan was born March 21, 1951, in Utica, NY, son of Howard E. and Eva (Lowell) Smith. Following his high school graduation in 1970 from Old Forge High School, he attended Canton ATC where he earned a bachelors degree in automotive technology.

Dan began a self employed career as a leak detection specialist (Smith Consultants), retiring after twenty-five years.  He later was a log home broker, retiring in 2015.

A marriage to Stephanie McCormac ended in divorce. He later married JoAnn Arruda in 1998. The couple have lived in Lorraine all their married life.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn, Lorraine; a son, Jason Smith, Lake George, NY; a step-son, Chris (Jessica) White, Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Danielle Smith (Robert) Nason, Lake Luzerne, NY; two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard (Cathy) Smith.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Shirley Smith Riehle.

Anyone who knew Dan or worked with him, was aware of that he challenged all expected norms, pushed his P.C. to the limits and he would spend hours adjusting the most minute details to his liking. He definitely danced to the beat of a different drum. He loved music but thought the music died with John Denver, the Beatles, Barry Manilow and the Beach Boys.

He also loved to hunt, fish and spending time outdoors on his property in Lorraine and earlier in Big Moose.

Dan requested that in lieu of donations, you plant a tree in his memory.
