DEXTER, NY — Daniel Michael Watkins, 71, died in his sleep on Oct. 10, 2018.
Dan , son of the late Edna Mae O’Flaherty and the late George Philo Watkins was born in Oakland, California on October 20, 1946 while his father was serving in the U.S. Navy. His parents eventually returned to their hometown of Watertown, NY, to raise their family. He attended Watertown High School and received his diploma in 1965.
Dan traveled the country and worked for a time as a builder of ferro-cement sailboats in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He enjoyed books and reading and was an accomplished teller of tales. He lived for many years on a sailboat, traveling between Northern New York and Florida or the Bahamas as the seasons allowed, keeping detailed ship’s log books. In later years he worked for his brother at the driving range on Pillar Point.
Dan is survived by his brothers Ron (Ashara) Watkins, Port Orange FL and Chris (Alta) Watkins, Pillar Point NY and his sister Kim (Mario) Rodriguez, Black River NY.
Dan was cremated and his ashes will fittingly be buried at sea.
There will be no services or calling hours.
