David J. Brennan, 90, Odin, IL

ODIN, IL —  David John Brennan, 90, Odin, IL, passed away Nov. 13, 2022, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1932, the son of Joseph and Letra (Barter) Brennan in Watertown, NY.

He married Helen L. Burtch on Jan. 7, 1956, at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Alexandria Bay, NY and they later divorced. A marriage to Martha Lee also ended in divorce. He married Judy Noller on Dec. 23, 1994, in Carlyle, IL, and she survives him in Odin.

Along with his wife of 27 years Judy Brennan, Dave is survived by his children Teresa Brennan of Alexandria Bay, NY, David P. Brennan and wife Diane of Williamsville, NY, Thomas Brennan of Watertown, NY, Debra Soluri and husband Ralph of Richmond, VA, MaryAnn Cummings and husband Walter of Clayton, NY, Amy Reed and husband Scott of Manlius, NY. Step-daughter Susan Lyons and husband Reggie of Odin, IL; grandchildren, Kristoffer Brennan and wife Billie, Alexander Brennan and wife Emma, Haley Brennan, Lisa Turk and husband Kenny, Randee Lee Weingart and husband Kyle, Chelsea Catino and husband Justin, Brennan Maloney, Megan Maloney, Matthew Gillette and wife Kirsten, Walter Patrick Cummings, Jr., Danielle Gillette, Catherine Cote and husband Kenny, Emma Jane Reed, Libby Reed, David Rogers Brennan, Keith Rogers Brennan. Step-grandchildren Benjamin Lyons and fiance Jessica Bunting, Christopher Lyons and wife Amanda; Katie Lyons and wife Kaitlin; two step-granddaughters Melissa Rogers and Kim Rogers; great-grandchildren Cordelia, Wyatt, Collin, Alice, Harper, Sawyer, Benny, and step-grandchildren Braeden, and baby Lyons on the way.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Marilyn Pappa, and Joe Brennan; grandson Benjamin Cole; and stepson-in-law Mitchell Lyons.

Dave was a 1950 graduate of Watertown High School. He then attended Ithaca College for one year.

Upon leaving Ithaca College, Dave started his minor league baseball career with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955 and was stationed in Germany.

Over the years, Dave worked various jobs in Watertown, Las Vegas and Southern Illinois. He later worked a few years for Burlington Northern Railroad in the 1980s until an injury forced him to retire.

In his retirement, Dave enjoyed working at a local golf course and was a member of the Centralia VFW Post 2055 and the Centralia Elks. Dave was an avid card player and sports fan who enjoyed watching golf and bleeding blue for the St. Louis Blues hockey team.

A Rite of Christian Burial was held in Sandoval, IL. Followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery in Sandoval with full military honors.
