CANTON, NY —Â The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office was notified that some citizens of St. Lawrence County have recently received fraudulent phone calls from persons falsely claiming to represent National Grid.
The caller will state a balance is due because of a change in bill processing, then demand payment from the client to avoid power being shut off or an arrest made.
Utility companies, such as National Grid, will not contact customers in this manner.
Citizens are encourages not to give payment information out to callers and to contact their utility companies directly.
