Donald M. Monaghan, 74, West Carthage

WEST CARTHAGE, NY — Donald M. Monaghan, 74, of 16 Lathrop St., West Carthage, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at his home.

Don was born on July 23, 1943 in Carthage, the son of the late Victor and Leona (Brockway) Monaghan.  He served in the Army during the Vietnam war from March of 1967 to May 31, 1969.

He married the former Wannetta M. (DeeDee) Smith on Dec. 24, 1996, in Watertown.

He was employed by the Village of West Carthage for 53 years in the Public Works Department. He served as superintendent from 1971 until retiring on May 30, 2014. Don was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping with his family.

He was an honorary member of the West Carthage Volunteer Fire Department, Life member of the VFW Post # 7227 and member of the American Legion Post # 789, all of Carthage.

Surviving are his wife, Wannetta M. (DeeDee) Monaghan; four daughters, Kirsten Feldman of Carthage, Deana Tuttle of Lowville, Alicia Becker of PA and Megan Monaghan of Black River; seven sons, James of Rutland, Donald Joseph of FL, Randy of FL, Donald of Ilion, Adam of Adams, Andy of Adams and Christopher Smith of FL; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annetta Williams of Carthage and Katie Monaghan of Buffalo; five brothers, Victor, Dennis, James, Gary and Ronald Monaghan, all of Carthage and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 6 pm Friday, July 13, at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home by members of the West Carthage Fire Department followed by military honors. Calling hours will be 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the West Carthage Volunteer Fire Department.
