Donald R. Bennett, 84, Clayton

CLAYTON, NY —  Donald R. Bennett, 84, a summer resident of Clayton, passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 21, 2019, at his home in Albany.

A calling hour will be held 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 320 John St., Clayton, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Arthur J. LaBaff, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Donald was born in Troy on February 26, 1935, son of Richard W. and Vivian Goldethwaite Bennett. He was a graduate of Bethlehem Central School and attended Russell Sage College, Albany. He entered the US Navy on July 2, 1956 and was honorably discharged on June 12, 1958.

A marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Meyer ended in divorce. He married Flora E. “Boots” LaChance Anzalone on April 30, 1988, at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Robert Decker officiating and she passed on Feb. 25, 2005.

Don was an insurance adjuster and then a broker for the National Grange and Terbush & Powell, both in the Capital District. He retired as a senior investigator for the NYS Liquor Authority, Albany after 25 years of service to them.

In his free time he enjoyed boating and sports car racing.

He is survived by his two sons and their wives, Matthew R. and Cheryl, Sloansville and Russell D. and Margaret, Oakdale, CT; two grandsons, Curtis and Brandon; long time companion, Lois Miller; and three stepsons, Christopher J. and Angela, Matthew C. and Michelle, and Jayson G. Anzalone, all of Watertown.

A stepson, Ronald J. Anzalone, died Oct. 22, 1997.
