Doris B. VanTassel, 94, Theresa

THERESA, NY — Doris B. VanTassel, 94, of Hyde Lake Rd., died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at her home while under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born Nov. 6, 1924, in Theresa, NY, she was a daughter of Stanley and Jennie Tibbles Thornton and attended Theresa schools.

She married Leslie W. VanTassel on April 20, 1950.  He died Sept. 21, 2011.

The couple owned and operated a dairy farm most of their life.

Survivors include six daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley Hirschler and companion, Fred Steinmetz, Logansport, IN, Beverly Rogers, Watertown, NY, Janette and George Reff, Clayton, NY, Jean Booth, Theresa, NY, Betty VanTassel and companion, Alger Knight, Redwood, NY, Sally and David Clark, Plessis, NY; five sons and three  daughters-in-law, Arthur VanTassel and companion, Darlene Barbrow, Theresa, NY, Hank and Sue VanTassel, Clayton, NY, Tom VanTassel, LaFargeville, NY, Ronnie and Kathy VanTassel, Theresa, NY, and David VanTassel, Theresa, NY, Joyce Aldrich, Clayton, NY; a sister and brother-in-law, Sadie and Carl Savage, Theresa, NY; a brother-in-law, Robert VanTassel, Evans Mills, NY; a sister-in-law, Virginia Monica, Theresa, NY; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her parents, her husband, a son, Carl Aldrich, four grandsons, Justin VanTassel, Steven VanTassel, Roy Hirschler, Johnny Barbrow, a granddaughter, Lisa Amyot Derrick, a son-in-law, Howard Booth and a daughter-in-law, Helen VanTassel all died previously.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, with Rev. Frederica Webb officiating.

Spring burial will be in Redwood Cemetery, Redwood, NY.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral service.
