WATERTOWN, NY — Doris E. Whitmore, 95, of Samaritan Summit Village, Watertown, NY, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019.
Born April 13, 1923, in Mexico, NY, the daughter of Leon J. and Leone Parks Putman, she was a 1942 graduate of Antwerp High School.
Doris married Donald R. Whitmore on June 26, 1944 in Philadelphia, NY, at the home of the bride’s parents. He passed away December 6, 2015.
She helped on the family farm, raising her family and taking in foster children for many years. For 15 years she made wedding cakes.
Doris was a 4-H Leader, member of the Antwerp Methodist Church and Clipper Club, enjoyed visiting with her friends and family, word search puzzles and the entertainment at Summit Village.
Survivors include a son, Scott Whitmore, Lacona, NY; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Gina Sansone, Springdale, AR, Diane and Ronald Nier, Sackets Harbor, NY, Barbara and Dennis Pennett, Greencastle, PA, Margaret and Charles Titus, Gouverneur, NY; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandsons and 2 great-granddaughters.
Her parents, her husband, Donald, three sisters, Zelda McKeever, Maxine Hay and Eleanor Henderson, two brothers, Donald Putman and Ralph Putman (WWII 1944), and two great-grandsons, all died previously.
A Memorial Service will be 2 pm Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY, with Monsignor Paul Whitmore of Holy Family Church and Pastor Ben Mackey of Grace Wesleyan Church, officiating. There will be a gathering, following services, at the Eagles Club, Outer Washington Street, Watertown, NY.
Calling hours will be noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
