LOWVILLE, NY – Elaine Boshart, 85, formerly of Turin died on Thursday evening, April 11th at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility.
Mrs. Boshart was born on Jan. 12, 1934, in Lowville, NY, the daughter of the late Elwin and Florence Rowell of Glenfield, she graduated from General Martin Central School where she participated in many school activities including cheerleading, band, chorus, student council, etc. She also developed an early love of sports that became a large part of the rest of her life.
She married Robert R. Boshart of Turin on May 10, 1954, at the Glenfield Methodist Church. After a stint in the army, she and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Turin for many years. Robert died on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005.
Elaine was very involved with the Glenfield Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there for over 25 years. She had a real love for the children of the church and was very fond of them all through the rest of her life.
Elaine was known for always being active, and she and husband Bob loved square dancing. Elaine also later became an avid contra-dancer. She was a fan of downhill skiing and many other outdoor sports, including hiking, canoeing, cross country skiing, and white-water kayaking. She was a proud member of the Adirondack 46ers and had committed to qualifying for membership in record time. She participated in organized events like the Adirondack 90 Mile Canoe Classic, the Tughill Tourathon Cross Country race and many different triathlons and races. She was a lifeguard at the Rome YMCA and enjoyed participating in Synchronized swimming there. Elaine loved to travel, explore the world and meet new people – no one she met was a stranger for very long.
She is survived by her two children and spouses, Sharon B. (Michael E.) Stewart of Turin; Michael R. (Anna M. Hikoyeda) Boshart of Seattle, WA; her grandsons, Derek (Wendy Markham) Stewart and Collin Stewart, great grandchildren, Jonathan and Kellie Stewart.
Elaine was predeceased by her daughter, Bethany Ann Yauchzy, and granddaughter Kelly Ann.
A “Celebration of her Life” service will be at the Glenfield United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. April 27, with cake and ice cream to follow. (She LOVED ice cream!) Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Turin Cemetery.
