ROME, NY —Â Elizabeth M. Smith, 72, Rome, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Rome Health after a brief illness.
She was born on June 21, 1949, in Carthage, NY, a daughter of the late Charles J. and M. Margaret (Doyle) McGraw. She was a graduate of Augustinian Academy and Canton ATC with a degree in Animal Husbandry.
Elizabeth worked for Blue Cross-Blue Shield for many years before retiring and moving to Rome, where she went to work part-time at Rome Podiatry.
Betty was a joyful person who walked with a bounce in her step and a smile on her face, yes, even under the mask. She especially enjoyed summers spent at the family cottage on Lake Bonaparte in Harrisville, NY.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Sean Plucinik; a sister, Kathleen Palermo; three granddaughters, Alina, Bryana and Maggie; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Michael, and a sister, Patricia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, at St. Peter’s Church, 200 N. James St., Rome, NY. Interment will take place in New St. James Cemetery in Carthage, NY, at a later date. There are no calling hours.
