Ernest E. “Ernie” Burr, 99, Lowville

LOWVILLE, NY Ernest E. “Ernie” Burr, 99, formerly of Kotel Road, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 24, 2018, at Carthage Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

A funeral service will be held noon Friday, July 27, 2018 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Sands Cemetery, Greig. Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday, July 27, prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.  A gathering at the Lowville VFW will immediately follow the graveside service. Any food donations may be taken directly to the Lowville VFW beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.

He is survived by a daughter, Kelly Sue Burr of Boonville and 4 granddaughters; several nieces, nephews and many friends. He is predeceased by his grandson; two brothers, Charles H. and Harry H. Burr; and a sister, Mae E. Hill.

Ernest was born on December 21, 1918 in the Town of Greig, a son of the late Egbert and Emma Otoway Burr. He attended rural school in Brantingham, Greig, and Glenfield. On June 9, 2004, Ernie received his high school diploma from South Lewis Central School.  He was a self-employed carpenter and painter before entering the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He owned and operated Ingersoll Welding in Martinsburg during the 1960’s and continued welding until the late 1980’s. He also owned and operated several farms in the Town of Martinsburg and Lowville until 1972.  Ernie worked for PWI Saw Dust Factory in Lowville for many years.

Ernie was a Life Member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, Lowville. He enjoyed hunting and working on bulldozers.
