RODMAN, NY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with an investigation into a fatal structure fire in the Town of Rodman.
This morning at approximately 1:49am, Town of Rodman Fire Department was dispatched to 26041 County Route 69 for a report of a structure fire.
Town of Rodman Fire, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies and state troopers arrived to find a residence fully engulfed and the homeowner unaccounted for.
The blaze was brought under control with the assistance of Town of Rutland Fire and Adams Center Fire. After extinguishing the fire, a body was found within the remains of the residence.
The Jefferson County Office of Fire & Emergency Management, with the assistance of New York State Fire Investigators, are investigating the cause of the fire. No determination has been made at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office anticipates confirmation of the victim’s identity through postmortem examination scheduled for later today. Additional information may be released at that time.
