FDRHPO’s “MASH” camp to offer students hands-on healthcare experiences

WATERTOWN, NY – The Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, in collaboration with the Workforce Development Institute, five regional hospitals and SUNY Jefferson, is pleased to announce the opening of its summer 2019 MASH Camp sessions this week.

MASH Camp is a unique opportunity for students in grades 8-12 to experience and explore the healthcare industry in an interactive way. By participating in hands-on activities that highlight various career opportunities, students will learn about the educational requirements, skills, typical job duties and personal qualities of specific healthcare professionals.

Additionally, involvement in MASH Camp provides students the opportunity to network with healthcare professionals in their community to build long-term mentoring relationships.

Each of the sessions (which run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) will help answer questions and provide students with a path to explore their career options in depth. Regardless of facility placement, each day will be different and provide interesting, thought-provoking exercises and real-life experiences, including interactive sessions with local Emergency Medical
Services and the LifeNet helicopter crew!

“MASH Camp is often the catalyst that ignites the passion and interest of our local students to further pursue their educational and career exploration in the healthcare field,” said Tracy L. Leonard, FDRHPO’s Regional Workforce Lead.

“As a launching point in the regional workforce pipeline, MASH Camp provides students the opportunity to make early and informed decisions about their future academic and professional goals. It truly is a collective community effort aimed at building a strong, sustainable healthcare workforce for the future.”
