Frederick B. Schloop Jr., 89, Lowville

LOWVILLE, NY –   Frederick B. Schloop Jr., 89, formerly of Brookside Senior Living Community and East State Street, Lowville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at Sitrin Health Care Center, New Hartford.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, at Lowville United Methodist Church with Rev. David Herrman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Brantingham Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Mr. Schloop was born June 28, 1929, in Lowville, a son of the late Frederick B. and Elva Salisbury Schloop. While in school he worked for his dad at the A&P Store in Lowville, and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1947, he continued to work for his dad until his marriage.

He married Rebecca R. Graham on Oct. 22, 1949, at the Mercer United Presbyterian Church in Mercer, Pennsylvania, with Rev. Ferdamore Vogan officiating.

Together with his brother Robert, they owned and operated Schloop Brother’s Gas Station in Lowville in the mid 1950s. They then moved to Sandy Creek, NY, where he managed the meat department at Clement’s Red & White Market until 1964. In 1964, the family moved to Homer, NY where Fred began working for NY State as a meat inspector until he became a compliance officer, retiring in 1989.

Mr. Schloop and his wife moved to Hiawatha Lake in the Town of Greig after retirement, where they built their retirement home. The couple moved to their residence on East State Street in 2001. Fred later moved to Brookside Senior Living Community.

Mr. Schloop was very involved in the Homer Methodist Church as head usher. Fred was a 70 year mason. He was a member of the Lowville Masonic Lodge F&AM and Sandy Creek Lodge F&AM, where he served as Master.

Throughout his life, Fred enjoyed golf, woodworking, bowling, square dancing, tennis, running, watching television, and riding bicycle. Later in life, he played tuba in the Lowville Village Band and enjoyed having coffee weekly with friends at Gary’s restaurant.

Mr. Schloop is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Linda and Donald White, Boulder Creek, California, Nancy and Michael McGirk, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Debra and Kirk Baldwin, New Hartford, NY; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Ray Rhubart, Lowville, and Donna and Michael Powlin, Brantingham; a sister-in-law, Shirley Schloop, Lowville; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, Christopher and Elizabeth; a great-grandson, Ian; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Becky Schloop, who died on June 19, 2009, and his brother, Robert Schloop.
