Gene H. Holder, 72, formerly of LaFargeville

LAFARGEVILLLE, NY — Gene H. Holder, 72, formerly of LaFargeville, passed away March 23, 2019, at Bath V. A. Medical Center. He had resided there for ten years battling Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born Feb. 26, 1947, in Watertown, a son of James E. and Arlene Preeman Holder, he was a graduate of LaFargeville High School.

On Jan. 11, 1968, he entered the US Army. He served in the US and Italy and received the National Defense Service Medal. Gene was honorably discharged on Feb. 17, 1970.

He was a former member of Old Stone Church, Depauville and he was a collector of famous signatures.

Gene is survived by two brothers, James W. Holder, Jr., LaFargeville and Rev. Patrick L. Holder and wife Betty, Elmira; a sister, Olive Thompson, GA; and two nieces, Joy Melissa Holder, Washington, DC and Melissa Joy Czysz, Pine City.

Along with his parents he was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Halwig and Elizabeth Howard.

A spring burial in Grove Cemetery, LaFargeville with military honors will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25, with his brother, Rev. Holder, presiding. There are no calling hours or funeral service.
