George F. Emrich named Watertown City School District’s new director of health, physical education and athletics

WATERTOWN, NY — The Watertown City School District Board of Education appointed a new Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics at its meeting Tuesday night. George F. Emrich, WHS Class of 1990, will assume responsibility for the district’s program beginning Tuesday, November 20.

“Mr. Emrich played varsity football, ran track & field, and was a Frontier League All-Star during his time at Watertown High,” said Superintendent Patti LaBarr following Tuesday night’s appointment. “He has deep roots in the Watertown community and we’re very happy to have him on board.”

Emrich is currently the athletic director of the Hermon-DeKalb Central School District, a position he has held since 2006. He also serves as a physical education teacher and driver’s education instructor.

Emrich has coached a variety of sports for school districts throughout the north country. He was formerly employed by the Watertown Parks and Recreation Department and the Watertown YMCA.

Emrich holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Cortland, a master’s degree from SUNY Potsdam and a certificate of advanced study from St. Lawrence University.
