Hancock Airport in Syracuse gears up for busy winter break travel

SYRACUSE, NY – The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today that Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) is gearing up for a projected 10% increase in winter break travelers, with airlines at SYR adding an additional 59 flights compared to last year during the same time period. Current projections have both Saturday, February 15, and Saturday, February 22 scheduled to be the busiest travel days of the winter break stretch.

The anticipated increase comes after a 9.4% increase in passenger traffic for January 2020 over January 2019 and the recent announcement that 2019 marked the highest volume of passenger traffic at SYR in three decades.

“Given our traffic projections, we will be going into overflow parking, so we are encouraging folks to arrive early and allow themselves extra time for parking and to get through the security checkpoint,” said Jason Terreri, Airport Director.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials are recommending that all passengers arrive at least two hours prior to their scheduled departure, especially during peak periods.

We would also like to remind those picking up passengers to utilize the cell phone lot. The lot is free of charge and has a flight information display, so you can track all arriving flights.

In an effort to make our passengers experience as smooth as possible, we will also have our SYR Pets Easing Travelers (PET) therapy dogs roaming the terminal and our Fly Guide Airport

Ambassadors on-hand to help passengers navigate the airport.
