UPDATE: Hancock Airport statement about Delta plane skidding off taxiway

SYRACUSE, NY – The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) – operator of Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) – has released the following update regarding an aircraft exiting a taxiway at SYR this morning.

Shortly after 7:30 am today, Tuesday, March 14th, 2023, a Delta Air Lines Airbus A220-100 operating as flight number DAL1718 exited one of the SYR taxiways, north of the main runway. This incident has not impacted airport operations – the airport has remained open and operational.

A coordinated response began around 8:15 am to bring the 61 passengers and their luggage back to the terminal building, which was completed approximately 45 minutes later. The flight and cabin crews have also exited the aircraft and have returned to the terminal building as of this statement. No injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.

A Delta Air Lines aircraft recovery team specializing in responses of this nature is en route to SYR, with an expected arrival this evening.

Shortly after 7:30 am, a Delta Air Lines Airbus A220-100 operating as flight number DAL1718 exited one of the SYR taxiways, north of the main runway. This incident has not impacted airport operations – the airport has remained open and operational.

A coordinated response began around 8:15 am to bring the 61 passengers and their luggage back to the terminal building, which has been completed. The flight crew has remained with the aircraft as efforts are underway to remove the aircraft from the grass.

The SYR Communications team will provide another update when the aircraft has been removed from grass.
