HARRISVILLE, NY — Harrisville Central School District is proud to announce the academic leaders of the Class of 2023.
Valedictorian – Evelyn Winters, daughter of Matt Winters and Liza Atkinson,
Harrisville, NY, has earned the highest academic award of Valedictorian, for the
class of 2023.
Evelyn plans to attend SUNY Oneonta in the fall for their theater program. Evelyn has participated in numerous musical and theater events since her sixth grade year at HCS.
At graduation, Evelyn will receive a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, as her seven semester academic average is 94.7. She will have nine dual enrollment credits through North Country Community College in Pre-calculus, US History and English Composition. She will also have three college credits through Jefferson Community College in Drawing and Painting.
Evelyn has always been active in a variety of school extracurriculars. Evelyn’s most meaningful activity has been playing on the varsity girls’ soccer team. She enjoys working as a team and the feeling of family and support that the team provides.
She is also a four-year member of the high school chorus and has taken part in
many NYSSMA solos. She is a former member of the National Junior Honor
Society and is currently the Service Chair of the Bonaparte Chapter of the
National Honor Society. Evelyn was also a finalist for the Student Space
Exploration Program.
Evelyn worked at HCS as part of the summer youth program, she helped with
maintenance and cleaning throughout the school. Evelyn was also a huge help with decorating for various elementary events. Her artistic and creative nature made her an asset to her school and her community.
Evelyn’s honors include: National Honor Society, Harrisville Central School
Academic Letters and High Honor Roll, Clarkson University Achievement Award,
Elmira College Key Award, Rochester Institute of Technology Innovation and
Creativity Award, St. Lawrence University Augsbury Scholar Award, St.
Bonaventure University Bonnie Scholarship, Keuka College George H. Ball Award,
Sage College’s Student Scholar Award and WWNY TV 7 Academic All-Star. Evelyn
will also receive the Dean’s Scholarship from Oneonta for her exceptional
academics.
Evelyn’s advice for students of HCS: “No matter what anybody says, follow your
dreams.”
Salutatorian – Aaron Parow, son of Carl Parow and Shelly Carr of Harrisville, NY
has earned the second highest academic award of Salutatorian, for the class of
2023.
Aaron plans to attend SUNY Canton and obtain a 4-year bachelor’s degree in Forensic Criminology.
Aaron’s academic grade point average for seven semesters is 93.2 and he will
receive a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation at graduation in June. Aaron will receive nine dual enrollment credits through North Country Community College in US History, English Composition, and Pre-Calculus.
Aaron has been active in many school groups and sports. He is a HCS three sport
athlete, was the captain of his soccer team, and received Athlete of Distinction
due to his strong ability in keeping high academics while playing multiple sports. He is a former member of the National Junior Honor Society and is currently the
Induction Chair of the Bonaparte Chapter of the National Honor Society. He has
been a member of the High School Band, High School Chorus and Student
Representative Assembly for four years. He is also the President of the Youth
Advisory Council (YAC), as well as President of his class.
Aaron has participated in multiple community service events. His most memorable
would be purchasing food for the BackPack program offered here at HCS. He also
enjoyed assisting with the set up and functioning of the Blood Drives offered at
the school, as well as donating blood himself.
Aaron’s honors include: National Honor Society, Harrisville Central School
Academic Letters and High Honor Roll, Clarkson University Leadership Award,
Elmira College Key Award, Rochester Institute of Technology Innovation and
Creativity Medal, St. Bonaventure University Reilly Scholar Award, and The Keuka
College George H. Ball Award
Aaron’s advice to future HCS students is: “Work hard, keep your head up and don’t let others bring you down.”
