Henry I. Schick, 86, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Henry I. Schick, 86, retired administrator for the City of Watertown school district, passed away March 31, 2019, at the Samaritan Medical Center.

There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home.  Calling hours will precede the service from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

A church service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at the River of Life – Rock Church, located on the corner of Hinds Rd and NYS Rt 37, Watertown.

Burial will follow in the Black River Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Vandergrift, PA, a son to Henry J. and Hazel Morgan Shick, he graduated in 1951 from Tarentum High School. He graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College in 1955 with a bachelor’s of arts degree.  He received a master’s of education degree of counseling at the University of Rochester and studied for Doctor of Ministry degree in Biblical counseling at Trinity Theological Seminary, Indiana.

Henry married Martha Jane Edwards on June 18, 1955, at the Watertown Free Methodist Church.

Mr. Schick taught high school history classes in Naples, Niagara Wheatfield and Amherst, NY schools. He was school counselor in the Carthage and Watertown school systems. After receiving permanent certification in school counseling and school administration, he became Director of Guidance at Watertown High School, working in school administration for 28 years.

In December 2001, he founded the River of Life Fellowship Church in Watertown, pastoring the River of Life Fellowship Church for 10 years until retirement.

Mr. Schick enjoyed many hobbies to include gardening, reading, and traveling and enjoying family activities. He loved sports, playing basketball, baseball and football on college teams. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.

Mr. Schick is survived by his wife, Martha, their son Brian (Karen), Portland, OR; a brother, Richard (Shirley) Shick, Sarver, PA; a sister, Beverly McAfoose, Tarentum, PA; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Muriel Shick, Natrona Heights, PA.

He was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd Shick, and a sister, Dorothy Rowan.
