James D. Scott, 68, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — James D. Scott, 68, Watertown, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, at Hospice Residence at the Ellis Farm surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown. Calling hours will precede the service 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

James was born Sept. 29, 1950, in Gouverneur, a son to Leland and Betty Chisholm Scott. He was affectionately referred to as “Deaner”.

James attended Indian River Central School then enlisted is the United States Navy June 1970 serving on the USS Suribachi in the Mediterranean Sea where he developed the love of the sea. He was honorably discharged April 1972.

He moved to Florida in 1977 where he remained until 2011 moving back to New York following an illness. He resided with his mother in Adams Center then moved to County View Apartments in Adams and later had to be transferred to Samaritan Keep Home.

James enjoyed the time spent on the water fishing and on his boat.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Scott Redden, Adams Center, NY; three sisters, Diane Jordan, Philadelphia, NY; Susan (Ken) Lowe, Dexter, NY; Dianne Scott, Adams Center, NY; two brothers, Norman Scott, Orange City, Fla; Wayne Scott, Watertown, NY and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

James was predeceased by his father, Leland Scott, two sisters, Linda Lawler, Phyllis Coutermarsh and three brothers-in-law, Joseph Jordan, Dennis Lawler and Jeffrey Coutermarsh.
