A sister, Joanne Urban of Watertown, and two brothers, Joseph and Christine Grant of Palm Coast, FL. And Jon Grant of Brownville. Extended family includes Cheryl Winters and Carol Bennett, Texas. He also adored several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 58, Pulaski Street, Syracuse, New York for fifty-six years.

James was a humble man who gave selflessly to family and friends.  His hobbies included flying planes, hunting, fishing, cooking and his 1950 Ford coupe.  He also enjoyed woodworking, to include making lighthouses and personalized wooden bowls for those he loved. However, most important to him was watching his five grandchildren play sports. He could always be found at one of the General Brown fields or gyms at an athletic event. Although his daughters were Daddy’s girls, they took a minor back seat to those five grandchildren. He was “Dad” and “Papa” to so many of their friends.

Upon his request there will be no calling hours.  A funeral Mass will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at St. Anthony’s Church, Arsenal Street, Watertown, New York.  A Celebration of Life following the Mass will be held at the Blue Heron, Main Street, Chaumont, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  We will share memories together celebrating his amazing life at his favorite Friday Fish Fry restaurant.
