Janet G. Cullen, 85, formerly of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, NY — Janet G. Cullen, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, in Sarasota, Florida after six months of declining health.

Janet lived in Philadelphia, NY from birth to age 65 when she relocated to the Florida west coast.

Janet was born in Sept 1933 to Robert and Lila Miller. She graduated from Philadelphia High School in 1950.  She married Leo Cullen in 1956 and raised their son, Michael Cullen.

Janet was employed by Jefferson National Bank in Philly from 1964 to 1976 and was branch VP.  She then purchased and co-managed the Big M grocery store in Philly. During her adult years in Philly, Janet was a member of the Vol Fire Dept Auxillary, Town Clerk for four years and a worker for the political elections. She also was a member of the Methodist Church.

After leaving Philadelphia, Janet enjoyed many years of retirement in Florida. She lived in Port Charlotte, FL for six years until her home was destroyed by Hurricane Charley . She then moved to Sarasota, FL , closer to her son, and had been there the past 14 years.  She always spoke fondly and lovingly of her many friends, old and new.  Janet was an avid Bingo player and loved watching old movies, NASCAR and professional wrestling.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Michael Cullen and Patti Postorino of Sarasota, FL.  Other survivors are her five nephews, Phillip (KS), Dan (FL) and Keith (NY) Trembley, and Wayne and Jason Weirich (ME).  Janet was pre-deceased by her husband, Leo Cullen (1972) , two sisters, Ann Weirich (ME 2016) and Agnes Trembley (FL 2015), and a niece, Wanda Weirich Coffin (ME 2009).

Janet’s ashes will be interred in Spring 2019 at the Sanford Corners cemetery in Calcium, NY. Please join the family in thought and prayer as she lays to rest.
