John F. Kormondy, 82, Clayton

CLAYTON, NY —  John F. Kormondy, 82, Clayton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, April 19, at the Samaritan Medical Center.

There will be a Celebration of Life noon to 4 p.m. May 14, at the American Legion Klock-Smith Post 1788.

John was born Oct. 18, 1939, in Beacon, N.Y., the son of John and Alfreda Smith Kormondy. He attended elementary school in Beacon, and graduated from a military high school.

On May 28, 1978, he married the former Georgianna Conklin in Beacon.

John served in the United States Navy, entering in 1958, and was honorably discharged in 1962.

John was a truck driver most of his life, amongst working at Frinks, Gilco, and Gaileys.

He was a member a of the LaFargeville Klock-Smith Post 1788 American Legion, and a member of the Alexandria Bay Masonic Lodge.

John enjoyed bowling, fishing, deer hunting, and making furniture. He was an avid fan of the N.Y. Yankees, Alabama College Football Team, and the N.Y. Giants.

Surviving besides his wife are six children, Fred (Norah) Merritt of Poughkeepsie, Peter Merritt of Clayton, Jay (Marsha) Kormondy of LaFargeville, Benita Merritt (Adam) of Brockville, Ontario, Kelley (Chris) Smith of Texas, and Leeann (Craig) Defee of Alabama; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Four grandchildren, Joshua, Lauren, Jaden, and Danielle, died before him.
