Lewis County deputies: Drunk woman collided into bridge during traffic stop

LOWVILLE, NYWendy A. Galutia, 48, of 7972 Caywood Rd., Red Creek, NY, was charged by Lewis County sheriff’s deputies early Saturday, July 14, on Route 12 in the town of Lowville with driving while intoxicated, driving over pavement markings and open container of alcohol on a motor vehicle.

Deputies said they responded at 12:09 a.m. Saturday to the area of Route 12 following a civil complaint or an erratic operator on Route 177 traveling towards Lowville. “As deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, they observed it pull over and collide its right side into the Mill Creek bridge on Route 12 prior to fully stopping.”

Ms. Galutia’s blood alcohol content was 0.15 percent, deputies said. A BAC of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law.

Deputies said they located two open bottles of wine in the vehicle.

She is summoned to appear in Lowville Town Court at a later date.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend sincere appreciation to vigilant citizens who report possible impaired and intoxicated drivers to help ensure the safety on the roadways for all users.
