ALEXANDRIA BAY, NY – Michelle Caron has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council.
Ms. Caron, Mallorytown, Ontario, has worked in various public and private sector roles in the travel and tourism industry for more than 25 years. She has served as the marketing director for Thousand Islands Accommodation Partners, Gananoque; executive director of the Thousand Islands Marketing Partnership; travel trade manager for the St. Lawrence Parks Commission and manager of product development, sales, marketing and international travel trade with Ontario East Tourism.
She has worked as a realtor as well as in hotel sales and marketing; she is additionally an entrepreneur with the Thousand Islands Trading Company.
“I am excited to join the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council and support its mission of marketing our beautiful region as a truly international destination. Strengthening an international partnership across the border is vital to our regional success,” Ms. Caron said.
The 1000 Islands International Tourism Council is charged with marketing and developing the regional tourism industry in Jefferson County and along both sides of the border. It oversees various tourism marketing programs promoting both sides of the border and is overseen by a Board of Directors comprised of residents in Ontario and New York.
“Promoting the region as an international destination has been challenged by pandemic restrictions the past two‐plus years. Few could match Michelle’s vast knowledge of the Thousand Islands tourism industry or match her ability to reforge those international relationships. We’re fortunate to have her aboard,” said James Corbin, chairman of the Council Board of Directors.
The Council’s significant stakeholders include the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority and Jefferson County, New York. Ms. Caron’s appointment was made official August 26.
