Lyle C. Wood, 92, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG, NY — Services for Lyle C. Wood, 92, of Ogdensburg, will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mr. Wood passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Riverledge Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.

Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Rosaline, his children, Sharlene Love of Heuvelton, Kevin Wood and his wife, Tina, of Ogdensburg, Ellen Fike and her husband, Francis, of Bolivia, NC and Stephanie Barr and her husband, Matthew, of Stafford, VA; a sister, Frances Halliday of Livonia, MI; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by a brother, Paul L. Wood, in 2012.

Lyle was born on July 23, 1926, in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of Forrest and Lena (Taggert) Wood. He graduated from Heuvelton High School in 1944. Lyle enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944. During his service, he received the American Theatre Medal, Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal. Mr. Wood was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of Seaman First Class. Lyle married Rosaline Hartley on April 1, 1948 at the Methodist Parsonage in Copenhagen, NY with Rev. Lawrence Harthengton officiating. Lyle first went to work for the Augsbury Corporation and later retired as a marketing coordinator in the Oil Industry for Clifford Oil based out of Utica, NY.

Lyle enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family, and being involved with the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department.

Lyle was one of the oldest living exempt members was very involved in the Department in the early years.  He was past Chief, New York State Fire Instructor and Past Deputy Coordinator for District 4.
