Man accused of striking woman, violating order of protection

WATERTOWN, NY —  Dale C. Groff, 44, homeless, was charged by Watertown police at 1:33 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at 136 S. Orchard St. with first-degree criminal contempt, a felony, second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor, second-degree criminal trespass, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree harassment.

He is accused of violating the terms of a Family Court order of protection when he struck the protected party, Casaundra L. Mashaw, 29, in her back with a closed fist during a domestic incident at about 1:10 a.m. Friday at 136 S. Orchard St., according to court documents.

He is also accused of unlawfully entering the residence and refused to leave after being told by Linda M. Pitts, 54, according to court documents.

Police said they located an 8mg/2mg strip of Suboxone in his front right pants pocket during an arrest search.

Mr. Groff was being held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment Friday morning in City Court.
