Marie T. Macaulay, 87, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Marie T. Macaulay, 87, of 20792 Carr Road, Watertown, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, surrounded by her family at home.

She was born on March 1, 1932, in Dublin, Ireland, a daughter of Samuel and May Colgan Greer.  Marie was a graduate of Commercial College in Dublin, Ireland.  The family moved to the United States in 1968 and settled in Watertown, NY.

She married Gordon Macaulay on June 11, 1955, at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Dublin, Ireland.

She  worked  for Resco Equipment  for 12 years and ended her career as an account clerk at Jefferson Community College in 2004.  Marie was fascinated with computers and enjoyed all of the technological advances she witnessed over her lifetime.

She loved to travel and visited many places in Europe and the Caribbean.

Knitting Irish cable sweaters and afghans for her family and friends was one of her passions.

Her favorite activity was good conversation over a cup of tea and Italian bread.

Marie volunteered in many capacities at Immaculate Conception Church in Brownville for many years and was active in the Women’s Organization at Jefferson Community College.

Among her survivors are her son and daughter in law, Gregory and Peggy Macaulay, Chaumont, three daughters and two sons in law, Angela and John Powers, Chagrin Falls, OH, Marian Dupee and her companion, John Horbacz, Pillar Point, Valerie and Brian Gonseth, Watertown, two brothers, Vincent and Adrian Greer, Dublin, Ireland, a sister in law, Lena Greer, Dublin, Ireland, 10 grandchildren, Kelly Powers, Christy McNeill, Michael (Emily) Powers, Erica (Shawn) Thomas, Shannon Macaulay and her companion Scott LaGrange, Sarah (Travis) Dusharm, Shawna White and her fiance Dr. Rahul Dudhani, Corinne Powers, Brianne (Logan) Patenaude, David (Margaret) Powers; eight great grandchildren, Ethan DeGraff, Lily Grey, Maya White, Carly Dusharm, Aiden Dusharm, Olivia Thomas, Stevie Thomas and Liam Powers, many nieces and nephews in Ireland and her forever fur buddy, Joey.

Besides her parents and her husband she is predeceased by two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Gerrard Greer, Samuel and Dorothy Greer, Maureen Greer and a sister, Madeline Greer.

Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 20 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, 117 N. Massey St., Watertown.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, January 21 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brownville.

Burial will be in the Brownville Cemetery in the spring.
