She was born July 25, 1921 in Mercy Hospital, the daughter of Mollie and Leo Stumpf. She was educated in St. Patrick’s School and Immaculate Heart Academy.

She was employed as a secretary at the New York Air Brake Co. until her marriage to George B. Towsley on Sept. 12, 1953, at St. Patrick’s Church with Rev. Eugene Kelly officiating.

When George began his CPA firm in 1968, Mary Alice assisted him as his secretary for the next seven years. She is survived by her four children, Phillip Towsley of Watertown, Therese Lonczak of Utica, Margaret (Bruce) Martin of Liverpool, and Elizabeth (William) Bamann of Watertown; five grandchildren, William, Paul, Kevin, Catherine, and Michael, and her sister, Margaret Cartin, also of Watertown.

She was predeceased by her husband George. In her final years Mary was lovingly assisted by Sherry Van Ness, who provided her with undying kindness and love, and Lynne Gordon who was always so faithful. The family thanks Sherry and Lynne for all they did for their mom.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, at St. Patrick’s Church with Fr. Christopher Looby, pastor, presiding followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery. There are no calling hours as per Mary Alice’s request.
