Mary Ellen Briceland, 85, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Mary Ellen Briceland, 85, formerly of Watertown, died after a long illness on May 5, 2018, at her home in Summerfield, Florida.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated noon Monday, June 4, at Holy Family Church with Rev. Timothy Canaan, presiding. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Born Sept. 23, 1932, in Syracuse, NY, a daughter of Clarence W. and Helen O’Connor Briceland, she graduated from Watertown High School in January 1950.

She was an engineering records supervisor for the New York Telephone Company, which later became NYNEX and she retired on March 31, 1988 after 38 years of service to the company.

She was a communicant of St. Timothy’s Catholic Community, The Villages, Florida and a former communicant of Holy Family Church, Watertown. She was a life member of Verizon Pioneers and a  past member of the Watertown Morning Musicals. She graduated in piano from the Dealing School of Music and played the piano for many local events while in Watertown.

Mary Ellen enjoyed bingo, baseball, and was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees.

In 2005 she moved to Florida to live near her sister.

She is survived by her sister and her husband, Margaret B. (Peggy ) and John Leuze, Summerfield, Florida; and two nieces.
