Matilda A. “Tillie” Williams, 92, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Matilda A. “Tillie” Williams, 92, 1411 Loomus Drive, Watertown, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019, under the care of her family, caregivers and Hospice at her home. She is the widow of Eugene M. Williams.

Born Jan. 25, 1927, in New York City, daughter to the late John and Teresa Lerma Arecco, she graduated from Washington Irving High School and Western Electric Business School in New York City. She also attended several Banking Courses administered by the American Institute of Banking.

Tillie retired as a second vice president of Key Bank of Central New York, manager and loan officer of the Adams Center Branch Office.

She was a member of the National Association of Bank Women, a charter member of the Rodman Fire Department Auxiliary and a founding member of the South
Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. She was a volunteer for the Jefferson County Fair and at the Monastery for the Sisters of the Precious Blood. Tillie was also a volunteer for Hospice, a member of AARP, and the Busy BG’s senior citizens group. Many will remember Tillie as their “Personal Banker”.

On Dec. 29, 1945, Tillie married her husband of over 57 years Eugene M. Williams, they lived in Rodman until 1980 and then Henderson Harbor. In 2003 she moved to Watertown on Loomus Drive.

Eugene died Sept. 8, 2003. They had four children Patricia, Sandra, Robert and John. John died at birth on May 27, 1953.

Tillie is survived by Patricia and Robert Simpson, Adams; Richard and Sandra Dodge, Pillar Point and Robert and Debra Williams, Rodman. Also surviving are six grandchildren Rob Simpson, Joe Simpson, Cathy Alberico, Brian Dodge, Andrea Williams Lomber and Tony Williams; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Tillie was predeceased by her husband Eugene, a sister, Lucy Matteotti and her grand-daughter New York State Trooper Teresa Simpson.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Reed and Benoit Funeral Home, 632 State St., Watertown. The funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, at St. Cecelia’s Church in Adams with Father Martin Cline officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Rodman immediately following the funeral mass.

The family wants to thank all our friends and neighbors during this trying time.
